Lower back pain

Back pain

Back pain? You are not alone, it is estimated that 80% of adults will experience back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain can present as a variety of different symptoms, such as stiffness, sharp pain and/or pins and needles in the leg. During the initial consultation we will do a thorough physical examination to determine where the pain is coming from and to assess whether chiropractic care is the best option to treat it.

Neck pain

Neck pain

  • Acute neck sprain
  • Stiffness
  • Whiplash
  • Radiating pain towards shoulder or arm

Like back pain, most people will experience neck pain at some point in their lives. Neck pain is often accompanied by stiffness and a limited range of motion. Headaches and/or pins and needles in the arm are also symptoms that are often seen in neck pain patients. Neck pain can be caused by an injury or a motor vehicle accident, however, most of the cases we see in our clinic are posture related. Chiropractic care can help you regain range of motion and have you sitting comfortably again.

  • Cervicogenic headaches
  • Tension headaches
  • Migraines

Headaches, mild or severe, can be tiring and even debilitating. While pain medication can provide relief, it does not address the cause of the pain. There are many types of headaches, not all of which originate in the spine or muscles. Therefore we will start by doing a thorough examination including a neurological exam to make sure chiropractic care is the best way forward.

Pregnancy related pain

Whether it is your first, your second or your fifth, being pregnant is hard work. During your pregnancy your body goes through many changes and your body needs to adjust every step of the way. Too often aches and pains are dismissed as ‘part of being pregnant’. You pelvis is the stable base of your body, it is important it can function well and support you and your baby. At Bright chiropractic we are specialised in treating pregnant woman. Treatment is safe for both you and your baby.

  • Restless or unsettled
  • Breast feeding problems
  • Flattening of the skull

Just like adults, babies can have aches and pains. They express this by excessive crying, being restless, not sleeping well or issues with (breast) feeding. When there is tension around the neck and/or shoulders, it can prevent them from being able to turn their heads fully, which can lead to a flattening of the skull. When you bring your baby to the clinic, we will start with a thorough history and examination. Treatment for babies is very gentle and shouldn’t cause them any discomfort.

Toddlers will have a few falls and tumbles, which, just like in adults, can lead to injury. In the school aged child aches and pains can be caused by sitting on badly adjusted chairs at school and lifting heavy backpacks on a daily basis. The body is resilient and adjusts to minor injuries instantly, however, as your child continues to grow it can lead to complaints. It is important to address these complaints as early as possible to avoid problems at an older age.

Shoulder pain

  • Frozen shoulder
  • Shoulder Impingement

The shoulder is a complex joint, it allows for a large range of motion where at the same time it needs to provide stability, therefore the shoulder joint is prone to injuries and pain. Shoulder injuries are often accompanied by restrictions of the shoulder blade, middle back and/or neck. As a chiropractor we assess all of these structures, as all of them need to work well to allow the shoulder to have full range of motion.

Wrist pain

Elbow, Wrist, Hand

  • Tennis/Golfers elbow
  • Carpal Tunnel syndrome
  • Tendon injuries in wrist and hand

Many of the injuries in the lower arm are caused by repetitive strain, such as working with a mouse or using scissors as a hairdresser. A chiropractor will asses the restrictions and build up of tension and treat them, as well as give you advice on how to prevent the issue arising again in the future.

Knee pain

Hip, Knee, Ankle, Feet

  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
  • Instability or restriction of the ankle
  • Plantar fasciitis

Pain of the hip joint is usually felt in the groin and is often accompanied by restrictions of the pelvis, lower back and sometimes the knee. Pain in the knee, ankle or foot can be caused by restrictions or a lack of stability. A chiropractor can assess where these restrictions are and treat them as well as give you advice on home exercises to increase the stability of the joint.

Jaw pain

  • Pain on talking, yawning or chewing
  • Difficulty opening the mouth fully
  • Clicking jaw

Have you been to the dentist thinking you had a tooth ache, but the dentist gave you the all clear? It could be a problem originating from the jaw or the muscles surrounding it. A chiropractor is trained to asses and treat jaw problems. Treatment will consist of mobilisation and traction of the jaw, trigger point therapy for the muscles and home exercises.

Sports optimisation

Would you like to optimise your sports performance or do you feel like your aches and pains are in the way of doing the sport you love? A chiropractor can assess any restrictions you might have and treat these, to ensure you can perform optimally.
